Same with the cells. Insulin facilitates glucose entry into the cells by binding to the receptors on the cell surface.  This allows glucose to be transported inside.  In insulin resistance, cells are ‘full’ (tables are full) and prevent glucose uptake (the people wanting to get into the restaurant)  leading to elevated blood sugar levels (leading to waiting in line).
